Why Mike Doria?

Q: What sets you apart from other Knowledge Consultants?

A1: I am a strong advocate for change in learning paradigms.

I see the future of work as one that will demand learners to become more independent at learning and self-development. This is a trend that will be driven by technology, and consequently, the increasing cost of time. At present, there are already signs of a shift in training processes. The training industry will shift from one that is human-driven to one that is fully-automated. From one that is real, to one that is virtual, training will be highly customized to the individual learner. Because time will be a most expensive resource, the need for speedier trainee development will intensify. Quality trainees, ones who can learn with the least amount of supervision and in the least amount of time, will become a valuable commodity.  It won’t be long before the academe will be pressured to answer to this demand.

The knowledge economy we are in has taken us from the age of information to the age of innovation, where knowing is not enough. Rather, knowing how to use knowledge to innovate is key to an organization’s success or its very survival. We are currently caught in a transition period where organizations that are unable to innovate find themselves in constant struggle. Those that are adept at innovation tend do much better.

I have decided to play a key role in this transition. While most Knowledge Consultants deal with Knowledge Management concerns, I help organizations transform into innovative entities by changing their paradigms of learning and development. It begins with a revisit of the very concept of knowledge and its role in the age of innovation. This is the advocacy upon which my profession stands and which my work surrounds.

Q: Why should you hire Mike Doria?

A1: Intelligence. If you are looking to hire someone to talk about knowledge and improving thinking skills, you might want to consider this person’s IQ. Modesty aside, I have an IQ of 139. That puts me roughly in the top 3% – 5% of the global population. Credentials such as degrees, certificates, and licenses do not guarantee intellectual capacity. What these guarantee is compliance to a set of processes and standards, none of which are necessarily reflective of the person’s intelligence. We have already left the culture of deference in favor of a culture of reference. Credibility nowadays is not anymore just about position, titles, or badges of authority or expertise. Rather, it is now about personality. Does this person possess the right mix of attributes to fulfill your needs? If intelligence is something you do not prioritize, move along. But if you believe intelligence is something that is of paramount importance, consider hiring me.

A2: Integrity. I have never been known to be a BS-er. But I have been despised too many times for my honesty. If you prefer to work with someone who will decidedly K your A for a buck, you’re talking to the wrong guy. Expect me to be brutally straightforward with you at every turn, risking your ire and my cash flow. Prepare for disagreements and big arguments if the situation calls for it. If you have poor tolerance for candor and are intolerant of well-intentioned arrogance, leave this page right now.  If you can trust that I have only the best intentions for you, and believe that arguments do oftentimes produce better results, you are a rare breed of human. We have that in common.  Hire me.

A3: Intention. Let’s not kid ourselves. All consultants claim to be service-oriented. None of them will ever own up to their bottom line. In the end, what they are after is what they can get from their relationship with you. They will tell you what they think you want to hear. They will change their form to fit your mold and avoid risking their profit. In the end, after all the fireworks have ceased, you will find yourself un-changed. My intention is your transformation. At the end of our stint together, you will find yourself a different entity. That is called growth. If you have this burning desire for change, hire me.

A4:  Intuitiveness.  Adaptability necessarily requires flexibility. Are you a slave to predictability? Good luck to that. Because of the rapid pace of change, literally everything is unpredictable. The best way to deal with this is to be flexible and adaptable. In other words, to be unpredictable as well. I’m very fearless and experimental. Expect me to color outside the lines. I’m non-conformist and counter-culture. I break stereotypes. Does this make you uncomfortable? Sayonara. Does this excite you? Let’s talk.

A5:  Intensity. I’m sure, at this point, you already feel it. You either love me or hate me. For being too transparent. For exposing my vulnerabilities. For being different. I wouldn’t want to market myself any other way. Would you have preferred that I did?

Mike Doria

After having spent a decade and a half teaching English Communication Skills, I’ve decided that it was time to reach out and share my knowledge to a greater learning audience.  Moreover, my back-to-freelancing status has allowed me the space and time to avail of the benefits of the internet thus, the creation of several blogs. And of all the blog hosting sites, WordPress seemed to be most appropriate for the purpose I had in mind. Three blog posts later, I not only find the medium to be most efficient but also surprisingly effective in my being able to draw feedback from readers both in and outside of WordPress.com. I foresee this to be a long-term symbiotic relationship with the popular website.

I have thus far created four (4) WordPress blogs, each with a distinct objective.

The first of which, bpoenglish.wordpress.com, centers on issues regarding English Training in the burgeoning Business Process Outsourcing industry in the Philippines. Its contents derived mainly from the more than 4 years I spent as an English Communication Specialist in one of the top call centers in the country.

I found it appropriate to open a blog that helps clarify the title I chose to go by, thus communicationskillsoptimization.wordpress.com was born. It offers the reader the most general scope of the subject and therefore targets a much wider audience than the other blogs. Virtually anyone could relate to its material.

I also wanted to have a portal specifically for sharing my thoughts on news articles whose subjects are relevant to English communication. For this, I opened theobserverinsights.wordpress.com.

Lastly, I felt I needed to have a portal for readers to know more about the author of my articles. Mikedoria.wordpress.com was created for this purpose. In this blog, I will try as best as I can  to give the professional behind the name ‘Mike Doria’ as vivid a personality as I can in order to connect better with you.

Please feel free to leave your comments to my blog articles. Or follow my blogs and add it to your feed. I am hoping you will find the entire experience of reading through Mike Doria’ blogs valuable to your understanding human communication and its significant role in your business, professional, and personal life.
